Hijama, acupuncture and pressotherapy are distinct approaches. Understand their aims, limitations and precautions before discussing individual care at PhysioFlex.
Hijama, Acupuncture & Pressotherapy
Hijama, acupuncture and pressotherapy are distinct techniques. Their selection and suitability are discussed after assessment; acupuncture is different from dry needling.
Clarifying the technique
Cups create suction on the skin. Dry cupping differs from practices involving skin incisions and blood removal. Precautions therefore differ. Clarify the proposed method, its purpose and limitations without assuming every variant is available at the clinic.
Limited evidence and realistic expectations
Scientific evidence remains limited and does not justify claims to treat every condition or remove toxins. Cupping may be discussed in a specific context, but does not replace diagnosis, medical treatment or prescribed medication.

Safety and consent
Skin marks, burns or infection are possible; precautions are especially important when blood is involved. Report medications, pregnancy, skin concerns or bleeding problems. Discuss hygiene, alternatives and risks before giving informed consent.
Acupuncture is a separate technique
Acupuncture uses fine needles at selected points according to the assessment and agreed aim. Its clinical approach differs from dry needling, which generally targets particular muscle tissues. Ask why it is proposed, what alternatives are available and what qualifications are appropriate before choosing a needle-based treatment.
Understanding pressotherapy
A dedicated device applies intermittent external compression, rather than cup suction or manual massage. Heavy legs alone do not establish that it is appropriate. The cause of swelling and relevant vascular, cardiac or skin concerns may require assessment before considering this option.
Making an informed choice
Discuss your reason for visiting, medicines, allergies and previous experiences. Ask which technique and area are proposed and how to report discomfort. The three approaches do not have to be combined in one session. Contact PhysioFlex to explain your needs before an appointment.
